This tour is designed for self-drive lovers & suitable for all range of ages. You will be exploring central & Northern Mongolia just in 10 days.  

Central Mongolia used to be the heart of the Great Mongol Empire. The vast grasslands of Central Mongolia is where the first official capital, Karakorum, was founded in the 13th century. Northern Mongolia - Land of Sky Worshippers Northern Mongolia has attracted the hearts and minds of many travelers throughout the year. Northern Mongolia is home to the densely forested mountains of Khangai and Sayan, Khuvsgul lake that shimmers like a borderless blue pearl, the Darkad Tsenkher depression (a huge valley of rivers flowing from high mountains), and the mystical deer stones.

ITINERARY

Day 1. Arrive UB and City tour

 Arrive in Mongolia’s capital, Ulaanbaatar. Take an approximately 45-minute car transfer to your hotel. After short freshen up, we will do city tour starting from Gandan monastery, Sukhbaatar main square, the winter palace of Bogd Jabzan Damba Hutagt VIII, Zaisan Memorial, State department store, Museum of Dinosaurs. Overnight in Shangrila 5* hotel. (LD)

 

Days 2. Terelj National Park & Ghenghis khaan statue (Distance 70km)

 After breakfast, we will drive 2 hrs (85km) to west through Ulaanbaatar and reach “Chinggis Khaan Statue Complex”.

Chinggis khan statue complex is located 54 km from Ulaanbaatar among beautiful natural scenery on the bank of river Tuul, in the place called “Tsonjin Boldog”, memorial place connected with historic events. After the complex drive to Terelj national park and have lunch. We will visit a landmark of the area called Turtle rock. Upon reaching a Turtle rock you can climb the curiously shaped rock while listening to a legend how this particular rock played a role in a Mongolian history. Then we will visit the temple of meditation called Ariyabal exploring the whole place. Evening drive back to UB. Overnight in 5* hotel.

 

Day 3.  Khustai National park & Elsen tasarkhai sand dunes (Distance 80+210km)

 After breakfast drive to Hustai National Park and see Takhi, the Asian wild horse. If you have a chance, see a wolf, argali sheep, and deer. Enjoy small hiking and photographing the charming landscape and wildlife. Visit Takhi's small museum.

 After Khustai NP, We will drive to West from Khögnö Khan, we can find sand dunes lost in the middle of a mountainous area. They’re called Elsen Tasarkhai, ”the sand fracture”, and extend on 80 kilometres (49,71 miles) in the South of the Khögnö Khan National Park. These dunes run along the Tarna River that is borded with willow trees. They are also called Mongol Els, ”Mongolian sand", or Khögnö Tarniin Els. Overnight in ger camp. (BLD)

 

Day 4. Kharkhorin & Erdenezuu (Distance 78km)

After breakfast, will start with short introduction of the tour and self driving jeeps, then head to the symbolic ruins of the 13th century capital of the Mongol Empire. Visit Erdene Zuu, the oldest monastery, with 108 stupas, built in 1586. Then visit the Kharkhorin museum and see the Great Mongol state period, Stone Age, Bronze Age, Ancient state period halls. Day 5 Khorgo volcano & Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake (Distance : 285km)

Drive deep into the heart of Khangai Mountain Range to explore Khorgo volcanic crater and The White Lake. There are dozens of extinct volcanoes here in a comparatively small area. Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake /White Lake/ was created by the lava river when the Khorgo volcano erupted 9 thousand years ago. The lake area is now home to many endangered species of flora & fauna.  White lake is a good spot for bird watching and photographing. Overnight in tourist camp. (BLD)

 

Day 6 Drive to Murun (Distance : 350km)

After early breakfast, we will drive to the Murun city & explore local market & museum.  Over night in local hotel. (BLD)

 

Day 7-8 Khuvsgul Lake (Distance : 50km)

The Blue Pearl - Khuvsgul Lake, the deepest and purest lake in Mongolia. The lake is one of the few glacial lakes left from the last ice age. Some people call it “Switzerland of Mongolia”. You have an opportunity to trek to the lakeside & mountain for a better view and photo shooting. Explore the flora, fauna of Khuvsgul lake area. Optional kayaking activity is available. In the evening, have fun with a bonfire party and share your feedback of the tour with your group members. Overnight in tourist camp. (BLD)

 

Day 9 Flight back to UB

 After early breakfast, transfer to Murun Airport & flight back to UB. Transfer to hotel & rest. (BLD)  - 2:30 hours flight
